Since the release of our Metadata Security for SharePoint product back in May we've heard from a number of customers about their security challenges and how the standard security provided by SharePoint doesn't really solve their problems. A lot of these customers like the approach we've taken, automatically setting item level permissions based on the item's metadata tags. I think this approach will grow in popularity with all the new metadata features that Microsoft in putting into SharePoint 2010, including the new Managed Metadata Services.
Release 1 of our Metadata Security product only worked on MOSS 2007. We heard from a number of customers that have WSS and want to use metadata security also. Often they cannot justify the costs of upgrading WSS to MOSS. As a result, we've done some work recently to see if we could port our product to WSS. I'm happy to announce that we've successfully done the port and we now have a beta product of Metadata Security for the WSS 3.0 platform. If anyone is interested in testing the beta software please let us know.
We are also working on a number of new features for the second release of Metadata Security for SharePoint. These new features are based on customer feedback. Stay tuned for an announcement on these new features sometime early in 2010!
