SharePoint 2010 is now officially available. Microsoft did the big Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010 launch event 2 weeks ago. From what I have seen this release is a major improvement over SP 2007. Especially in the area of metadata and document management there are a lot of great new features.
Obviously a lot of customers have the same view. Many of our customers and prospects have been asking about our plans for SharePoint 2010 support. A good number of these customers have been piloting SP 2010 beta for the last few months and have plans for a quick implementation of SP 2010. I’m happy to annouce that our Metadata Security for SharePoint product will support both SharePoint Foundation 2010 and SharePoint Server 2010 in a few weeks. We’ve been working on a 2.1 release now for a few months, and we are almost done. Customers using Metadata Security for SharePoint R2 should be able to migrate to SharePoint 2010 fairly easily. An in-place upgrade of the same machine is the easiest scenario. But we will also support migration to a new server when SharePoint 2010 is installed. You should be able to import your existing metadata security rules onto the new SharePoint 2010 server. Specifically we will support the following migration scenarios:
1) In-place upgrade from WSS 3.0 and Titus Labs Metadata Security R2 to SharePoint Foundation 2010 and Metadata Security R2.1
2) Same as above but in-place upgrade from MOSS 3.0 to MOSS 2010
3) New hardware with backup/ restore from WSS 3.0 to Foundation 2010 with installation of SP 2010 first and then re-install of MDS 2.1
4) New hardware with backup restore from MOSS 3.0 to MOSS 2010 with installation of SP 2010 first and then re-install of MDS 2.1
